Meet Arturo Barrios
Former Olympian and World Record Holder in the 10,000 Meter Run
Arturo Barrios was born in Mexico City in 1962.
He held the world record in the 10,000 meters (27:08.23) for four years from 1989 to 1993.

Meet Arturo Barrios Barrios finished fifth in the 10,000 at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1991, he set world records in the one hour (21.101 km) and the 20,000 m (56:55.6). These records stood until June 2007, when they were broken by Haile Gebrselassie. Barrios' 1991 performance makes him the first man ever to run a half-marathon distance in less than one hour. Arturo participated in the 6th IAAF World Cup in Athletics in 1992, running the 5,000 m with a time of 13:50.95, finishing in second place.

Barrios became a United States citizen in September of 1994. Barrios graduated from Texas A&M University in 1985 where he competed in track and cross country. He presently resides outside of Boulder, Colorado.
